Safe Mercury Removal at PJN DENTAL
Expert Mercury-Amalgam Removal with IAOMT Certified Protocol
Why Safe Mercury Removal Matters
All dental amalgam restorations, commonly referred to as silver fillings, contains over 50% mercury. Unsafe mercury removal can be harmful to patients, dental professionals, and the environment. Dr. Pascal is an accredited member of the IAOMT and specializes in safe mercury-amalgam removal using the strict SMART protocol.
Our SMART Protocol for Mercury Removal
At PJN Dental we follow the SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) protocol to ensure the safety and health of our patients:
- Preparation:
- Charcoal and chlorella rinse and swallow before and after treatment.
- Isolation:
- A dental dam is placed to isolate the tooth, avoiding contact with soft tissues or swallowing particles.
- Protection:
- Protective garments, including a surgical gown, hat, face, and neck shield, are placed on the patient.
- Oxygen Supply:
- Oxygen is delivered to the patient via a nasal cannula during the mercury removal process.
- Aerosol Control:
- A separate oral aerosol vacuum is placed 2 to 4 inches from the patient’s mouth to mitigate mercury exposure. Slow and high-volume suction is used at all times.
- Environmental Safety:
- An amalgam separator collects all mercury particles, preventing their release into the environment.
